Day 3

From Umeå we took the bus to
Vännäs, another small town west of Umeå. There we stayed the night and the
next morning we woke up around 06:30 and walked to the railway station to
find some buses; but first, a visit to the platforms, which was kind of
covered in snow.

Too bad the waiting room wasn't open here,
but on the other hand, the apartment was just a few minutes away...

It was only when I left Vännäs that I
realized that I didn't take any good picture of the bus station itself.
This is probably the best shot. Anyways, the ground was just all white,
the snow was so compact that it could've been called ice instead.

What we were going to do between Vännäs and
Vindeln was not completely decided until the very last minute. It was
either take the bus to Bjurholm and then taxi to Vindeln or go to Umeå and
stay there for a couple of hours. It turned out that the taxi ride was
going to cost about 1000kr so therefore it was pretty obvious what we
chose to do...

Again, it snowed the whole way there and
continued to snow even in Vindeln hence taking pictures wasn't an easy
thing.

A sneak peak at the bus station with the
station building. Notice the SJ emblem; ironically, it has probably been
there during Tågkompaniet's, Connex's (now Veolia's) time and in just
about 2 months, it will be SJ running the passengers trains here again, so
good decision whoever it was that made it, to not take it down.

As you see, there's not a lot of trains
stopping at Vindeln...

At least we have some timetable information
here at Vindeln comparing to Nordmaling; now all we need is a working
clock.

Here comes the 14:30 train to Luleå, about
24 minutes late, most likely do to the fact that the locomotive needed to
change direction at Vännäs. Otherwise, this departure usually consists of
a Regina as you see in the picture taken in Sundsvall.

This is definitely not something you see in Stockholm; leaving the engine
on for max 3 minutes!
After Vindeln, it was time to go back to Umeå where we separated and the
other two continued to Skelleftehamn and I stayed the night at Umeå's YMCA
I guess you could call it...
